What does a 'protected' temperature indicator strip do, and when do I need one?
The 'protected' status refers to the plastic or Kapton® film which, as the name suggests, protects the temperature indicator strip from liquids which could possibly interfere with the measurement, such as oils, solvents, and water. If you need to measure temperature thresholds in environments which are exposed to liquids or on surfaces permanently covered by liquid, a protected indicator is necessary to provide an accurate reading. Plastic film covers ranges up to 188 °C; above that we use Kapton® protection for optimal heat resistance up to 264 °C.
Can temperature indicator strips be used for measuring heat-exposure during shipping?
Yes, temperature indicator strips can be used to track heat exposure in shipping. Attached to the cargo and possibly the container, they can indicate whether heat-sensitive freight has crossed critical temperature thresholds above 38 °C.
